This automation ensures comfort and minimal disruption during nighttime awakenings. When motion is detected in the living room between midnight (12:00 AM) and early morning (5:59 AM), and the home is set to "Night" mode, the bed frame light automatically turns on at a soft, warm color. Although set to 100% brightness, the chosen warm tone and indirect placement provide gentle, unobtrusive illumination, making it easier to navigate the room for tasks such as visiting the bathroom or drinking water without fully awakening or straining your eyes.
The SmartThings Motion Sensor, positioned strategically to detect movement at the bedroom-living room boundary, helps trigger this automation effectively. Adjusting the sensor angle carefully is advised to ensure that the detection range activates the lighting only when intended.
The bed frame uses a Tapo Light Strip, which must first be added through the Tapo app and then integrated into SmartThings by linking your Tapo account within the SmartThings app. During installation, consider the perimeter length of your bed frame, and carefully cut the strip at its designated cut points to achieve the desired length before attaching it securely.
