When someone enters the bathroom, the vanity light and exhaust fan automatically turn on.
This automation activates both the vanity light and the exhaust fan automatically upon entering the bathroom. The system uses a SiHAS People Counter sensor installed on the bathroom door frame, aligned properly according to entry direction (following the + and - marks), to accurately track the number of people inside. Once at least one person is detected, the vanity light and exhaust fan turn on, creating a comfortable environment. To enable SmartThings control over the bathroom devices, I replaced the original 4-gang wall switch with a SiHAS Zigbee Switch (important: turn off the circuit breaker before installation to ensure safety). This allows SmartThings to control not only the bathroom vanity light and exhaust fan but also the shower booth light and the hallway light outside the bathroom. The SiHAS People Counter Sensor utilizes both PIR and ToF technology to track and memorize the number of people entering and exiting. When installed at the appropriate height, it performs highly reliably in most situations. For spaces with a single entry, it provides more dependable occupancy detection compared to motion sensors (which can't detect continuous presence) or mmWave sensors (which may suffer from ghost detections due to signal interference). This automation runs locally on the hub for faster response, ensuring operation even without internet connection.
