The shower light automatically turns on when the shower stall door is closed, providing convenience and energy efficiency by activating the lighting only when needed during showering.
This automation automatically activates the shower stall light in the bathroom when the shower stall door is closed. It is most effective when used alongside the "Bathroom Light on Entry" and "Bathroom Lights Off" automations. The bathroom has two separate lights: one for the vanity and another specifically for the shower stall. Initially, upon entering the bathroom, only the vanity light is activated by the "Bathroom Light on Entry" automation. The shower booth light, however, is configured to turn on only when the shower stall door is closed, as detected by a contact sensor attached to the door. For this setup, a contact sensor has been installed on the shower stall door. To prevent potential water splashes during showers, the sensor was strategically placed slightly below the top of the shower stall frame with proper distance between the pieces. This ensures accurate detection of the door's closed state while avoiding direct water exposure, minimizing unnecessary lighting. This automation works in conjunction with the SiHAS People Counter sensor installed at the bathroom entrance, activating the shower stall light only when there is at least one person detected inside the bathroom, and the shower stall door is closed. To reliably manage all bathroom lighting through SmartThings, the original 4-gang wall switch was replaced with a SiHAS Zigbee Switch (important: always turn off the circuit breaker before installation). This automation operates locally on the SmartThings hub, ensuring faster responses and reliable functionality even if the internet connection is disrupted.
